Full Synopsis
THE STORY
Bizet’s Carmen is one of the world’s most celebrated and irresistibly powerful operas.
Set in the sultry background of Seville, Spain, this avant-garde and inspiring production follows the life of the beautiful and free-spirited Carmen, a gypsy rose who melts men’s hearts with her unbridled passion and fiery temper.
Innovative and provocative, the soul-stirring music of Carmen, which includes the sultry Habanera and the famous March of the Toreadors, is a perfect foil to the alternating comic and romantic drama in this spectacular production by renowned director Francesca Zambello, who presents a fresh and evocative perspective of this iconic tale of passion.
Carmen’s hedonistic and fatalistic free love is as shocking today as it was when the French masterpiece first made its debut in Paris over a century ago. A work of everlasting genius, Carmen is a vibrant feast for all the senses, and guaranteed to get your blood hot and your mind spinning.
